Scooter After Sales Service

I would go so far as to say that after sales service is as important as a trusted scooter brand, and I say this after dealing with 3 different scooter companies in Cape Town. The scooters I've bought and ridden in Cape Town are all of the Chinese scooter variety. These are generally a cheap run-a-round suitable for a daily commuting, saving on petrol and making parking easy and traffic largely irrelevant. In all three instances I've had a few issues with the bikes, ranging from timing issues to alternators and punctures. Some of these issues are a result of wear and tear and road hazards, while some are the result of poor aftersales servicing of the scooter.
A few questions you should ask the scooter dealership, and get affirmation in writing, include:
What is your after sales service policy?
What are your service intervals on the bike?
What is covered in a service?
Do you collect the scooter if I am unable to transport the scooter to your workshop?
Is your workshop on site?
Are your mechanics qualified?
What warranty do your bikes have?
Do you have parts in stock?
While the answers to all these questions may be satisfactory, it is the manner in which your issue is dealt with that leaves a lasting impression. How good is your dealer in communicating problems or delays, are they honest enough to admit when the fault is a result of an error on their side and subsequently rectify the problem for free.
Unfortunately this aspect is difficult to gage, but I think you can get a fair idea of the type of people you're dealing with by visiting the dealership and meeting the owner. Of course a personal review or referral from a friend gives you that added peace of mind, so ask around.
Just make sure you have some kind of reputable recomendations, as many repair shops are full of empty promises and fail to deliver the first time. Having to repeatedly take your scooter in after it had already been "fixed" is even worse. The Internet is full of information and reviews, sites like hellopeter and brandminus are good places to see if any reviews have been left regarding your scooter dealer.
